The average Reflexology treatment lasts between 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes. The first treatment usually takes 1 hour 15 minutes as a consultation MUST be taken. Make sure you inform your Reflexologist if you have any serious illnesses, diabetes, in early pregnancy or have or are going to have surgery as there are certain contra-indications each reflexologist works by.A relaxation technique is applied first to allow your feet to adjust to the human touch. Then the treatment sequence will begin. Also make sure you tell your Reflexologist if there are any conditions/problems you wish him/her too try to improve (although this usually happens after more treatments).
Areas that are 'imbalanced' or 'congested' may either be felt by the practitioner, or often felt by the client in the form of tenderness or a 'tingly' feeling. This is nothing to be alarmed about, but you must tell your Reflexologist if this occurs so he/she can see what is happening in your body and then work out a treatment plan to suit you.
After treatment many people experience deep relaxation and tranquility. You may feel more awake and revitalized. Some people, however, may experience fatigue, darker concentration of urine or even a bowel movement. This is called the 'healing crisis', it is where the body is cleaning out its system and can usually occur after the first 2-3 sessions. Don't be alarmed, it is just the detoxification process.
Your Reflexologist should then discuss his/her findings with you and advise on further care. He/she should also advise you to drink plenty of water over the 12 hour period after treatment just to help the detoxification process.
